How to plan a resilient construction budget

FIELD NOTES
Three early decisions that protect scope, schedule, and value.

A resilient construction budget does more than total labour and materials. It makes room for the real conditions of a site: long-lead items, phased access, weather, inspections, and the decisions that only become visible once work starts. The strongest budgets begin with a clear scope, an honest risk register, and a sequence everyone can understand.
First, separate known costs from allowances so everyone can see what still needs decisions. Second, align procurement with the build sequence rather than buying on instinct. Finally, agree a fast, documented change process before the first variation arrives. These habits turn uncertainty into something the team can manage together.
